Industrial Design.
Group Project
IMPACT, Innovation Design Engineering (IC x RCA)
This project features an interactive lamp equipped with an AI voice-over assistant, designed to encourage children to become energy-saving influencers at home. In collaboration with Ebbsfleet, the UK’s first garden city, the initiative aims to promote intelligent and efficient energy use in residential areas.

Context
This project was developed in collaboration with EDC and Ebbsfleet community, aiming to promote local energy conservation goals. We focused on children, recognising that the Ebbsfleet community values educational initiatives and understanding that energy-saving habits formed at a young age can have a lasting impact.

Concept
Introducing Watty, an intelligent lamp that connects to appliance energy sensors to monitor energy usage. Watty interacts with children, guiding them to develop energy-saving habits through practical actions. Take a look at the video to see how it works.

Process
We adopted a community-centric design approach by interviewing parents and children in Ebbsfleet. Drawing on insights from regular engagement with residents, we explored various methods to effectively interact with children, aiming to balance the teaching of energy-saving habits with fun and engaging activities.
